Benefits of Camelia for Skin
Prevent skin from oxidative stress
While camellia sinensis leaf contains a number of bioactive chemicals, it is particularly rich in catechins, of which epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is the most abundant. Catechins and polyphenols are effective scavengers of reactive oxygen species in vitro and may also function indirectly as antioxidants.
Anti-aging
Cemellia sinesis leaf polyphenols delivered in a beverage were shown to protect skin against harmful UV radiation and helped to improve overall skin quality of women. Some flavonoids may protect the skin by absorbing UVB and thus functioning as sunscreen.
Anti-inflammatory
Topically applied cemellia sinesis leaf purified polyphenol extract has been shown to inhibit UV-induced inflammation, combat DNA damage, and reduce the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS).
Skin Hydration
Cemellia sinensis leaf, high in flavanol was shown to diminish UV-induced erythema formation, increase microcirculation, improve skin structure (as roughness, scaling, volume, and wrinkles), and reduce TEWL (Trans Epidermal Water Loss).
